I Saw the Light
Tune: “I Saw The Light” by Hank Williams
I used to think that the boss was my friend.
I’d stand behind him through thick and thin,
Workin’ all day and into the night,
That was me till I saw the light.
I saw myself as one of a team,
Part of the great American dream.
The company was growin’, the future looked bright.
So I thought till I saw the light.
CHORUS: I saw the light, I saw the light,
I realized that the Union was right.
Now I am ready to stand up and fight.
I’m with the Union, I saw the light.
The union organizer came to our shop.
He said that we needed a voice on the job,
But I said “I don’t need no union, the company treats me right.”
That’s what I said till I saw the light.
Then out of the blue came the cutbacks in staff.
Our working force was cut by one half,
And they said “Please understand, our budget is tight.”
That’s the day I saw the light.
CHORUS
Long-term employees were thrown out the door.
Young folks and new hires, they stayed on board.
Our big happy family was busted up that night,
And all of a sudden, I saw the light.
CHORUS (x2)
