Public Workers, Stand Together

Tune:  "A Miner's Life"

The times are tough for public workers.  Every day it's something new--

Furlough days and hiring freezes, freezes in our wages, too,

Paychecks pounded by inflation, budgets cut down to the bone.

We have got to stick together. It's no time to stand alone.

CHORUS:      Public workers, stand together,

                        Stand with pride and dignity.

We are all in this together,

                        Every public employee.

Power-hungry politicians, trying to fuel their own careers

Use the workers as their scapegoat, playing on the public's fear.

They turn the populace against us with the lies they fabricate.

Let's tell our side of the story.  Then we'll set the record straight.

CHORUS

Profiteering corporations feeding at the public trough

Are taking over public programs, laying long-time workers off.

They paint us all a pretty picture of doing more and costing less,

Then skip town with all the money, leaving us to fix the mess.

CHORUS

Workers in the private sector, we're no different from you.

We work hard to feed our families, pay our rent and taxes, too.

It doesn't matter who we work for, we're all workers like yourselves,

So whenever they attack us, they're attacking you as well.

FINAL CHORUS (x2):     Working people, stand together,

                                             Stand with pride and dignity,

We are all in this together,

                                             Stand in solidarity.
